Answers to your questions about remodeling with Liston Design Build.

Getting Started

What makes a design-build company different from other remodeling businesses?

A design-build company manages both the design and construction of your remodeling project through one team. Instead of coordinating separate designers, architects, and contractors, you work with one collaborative team from initial planning through construction and completion.

Why should I choose Liston Design Build?

Liston Design Build is a third-generation, family-owned remodeling company that has served St. Louis, St. Charles, and surrounding communities since 1984. Our team provides design, architectural, and construction services under one roof, with a focus on clear communication, thoughtful design, and quality craftsmanship.

What areas do you service?

We serve homeowners throughout St. Charles County, western St. Louis County, and many other surrounding communities.

What types of remodeling projects do you specialize in?

Our remodeling services include:

  • Whole-home remodeling
  • Kitchen remodeling
  • Bathroom remodeling
  • Finished basements
  • Home additions
  • Outdoor living spaces
Do you work on older or historic homes?

Yes. We have experience remodeling older and historic homes throughout St. Louis and St. Charles. Our team considers the home’s existing architecture and character while updating the space to meet modern needs.

The Design-Build Process

What does your remodeling process look like?

Our remodeling process follows five phases:

  • Discovery
  • Design
  • Develop
  • Build
  • Service

Each stage is designed to keep you informed while ensuring every detail is thoughtfully planned before construction begins.

What happens during the Discovery phase?

During Discovery, we get to know you, your home, your goals, your lifestyle, and your budget. We’ll discuss what’s working, what isn’t, and begin exploring ideas for your remodel.

Will I have a designer helping me throughout the project?

Yes. An experienced Liston designer will work with you throughout the design and selection process to help develop your overall design, coordinate selections, create renderings, and make sure the finished space meets your needs and preferences.

Do you have an in-house architecture department?

Yes. Liston Design Build has a registered architect on our in-house team. This ensures we own your project’s architectural expertise and allows our design and construction teams to collaborate seamlessly throughout your project.

Can you help me visualize my remodel before construction begins?

Yes. Our design team creates detailed 3D renderings and comprehensive plans so you can fully understand the scope of your new space before construction starts.

Will you help me select cabinets, countertops, flooring, lighting, and finishes?

Yes. Our concierge approach includes helping you select materials, finishes, fixtures, and other design elements that fit both your vision and your investment level.

Budget & Planning

How much does a remodeling project with Liston Design Build cost?

The cost of a remodeling project depends on its size, scope, materials, and complexity. During the planning process, we’ll work with you to establish a project scope and budget based on your specific goals.

Do you provide estimates?

Yes. We provide project cost information as part of our planning process. The amount of detail available depends on the stage of the project, and we’ll work with you to establish a realistic budget before construction begins.

How long does a remodeling project take?

The timeline depends on the size, scope, and complexity of the project. We’ll establish a projected schedule during the planning process and communicate with you throughout construction about progress and any timeline changes.

During Construction

Can we live in our home during remodeling?

It depends on the scope of the project. Many homeowners are able to remain in their homes during remodeling, while larger projects may require temporary relocation. We’ll discuss what makes the most sense for your project during planning.

Who manages my project and how will I be communicated with during construction?

Your project is managed by a team that includes a dedicated designer, project manager, production staff, and skilled carpenters. Your project manager is your primary point of contact and will communicate with you regularly about project progress, typically on a weekly basis and more frequently when needed.

Will my home be protected during construction?

Yes. We take steps to protect your home and belongings throughout construction and maintain a clean and organized job site throughout.

What happens if we decide to make changes during construction?

We will review any requested changes with you and explain how it may affect the project’s cost and timeline. If the change requires an adjustment to the original scope, we’ll document it through an approved change order before proceeding.

What happens if something goes wrong?

If an issue comes up during your project, we’ll communicate with you proactively to explain the situation and work with you to determine the best solution. Our goal is to address problems immediately and keep the project moving forward with as little disruption as possible.

Do you offer a warranty on your work?

Yes. Liston Design Build offers a 2-year warranty on all of our work. If an issue covered by the warranty arises, our team will work with you to address it.

Remodeling Decisions

How do I know whether I should remodel or move?

If you like your location but your home no longer meets your needs, remodeling allows you to improve its layout, functionality, and comfort without moving. A consultation can help you determine whether remodeling makes sense for your home and goals.

Which remodeling projects provide the biggest impact?

Kitchen remodels, bathroom remodels, finished basements, home additions, and whole-home remodels can make significant improvements to how a home looks and functions. The right project depends on your home’s needs and your family’s specific goals.

Can you remodel my home in phases?

Yes. We have completed remodeling projects in phases, including room-by-room and level-by-level renovations. Phasing a project can be discussed during the planning process based on your desired scope.

Can you help improve the flow of my home without building an addition?

Yes. We take pride in improving how a home functions without adding square footage. Solutions may include reconfiguring rooms, removing walls where appropriate, improving circulation, and adding more effective storage.

Do you help with aging-in-place remodeling?

Yes. We can incorporate aging-in-place and universal design features into your remodeling project. Depending on your needs, these may include accessible bathrooms, wider walkways and doorways, improved lighting, barrier-free showers, and other features designed for long-term comfort and accessibility.

How do I get started?

The first step is scheduling a consultation with our team. We’ll discuss your goals, answer your questions, and explore what’s possible for your home. From there, we’ll guide you through every step of our design-build process.
